YU鈥檚 Model UN Delegates Take On International Issues

Annual Competition Convenes More Than 400 High School Student Delegates From February 11鈭13, more than 400 student delegates from 47 yeshiva high schools and community day schools gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Stamford, Connecticut, to participate in the 28th annual National Model United Nations conference (YUNMUN).  Students came from Brazil, Canada and cities across the U.S. to take part. Student delegates simulated the countries and committees from the real United Nations and learned about the complexities of international diplomacy while discussing a wide range of issues, including gender roles, human rights and international law. More than 75 YU undergraduate students were also on hand to assist high school groups and to help coordinate the program. One Yeshiva College undergrad, Raffi Wiesen 鈥19YC, chair of the International Maritime Organization, said that 鈥淵UNMUN represents the unity we see here among the students who come from around the world to work together, solve world issues, meet new people and really grow from the experience.鈥
