YU Students Explore Career Opportunities in Data Analytics

In a World of Algorithms, Data Analytics is King On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, YU students with a keen interest in pursuing a career in data analytics heard from professionals working in the industry. How do you break into the field? Which industries offer the best opportunities for advancement? What鈥檚 the career outlook for data analysts over the next five years? Answering these questions and more were six YU alumni who comprised the panel for 鈥淐areers in Data Analytics,鈥 a Career Center event that drew an audience of more than 40 YU students majoring in business intelligence and marketing analytics as well as related disciplines.

Seasoned data professional Mark Zomick 鈥88YC kicked off the evening with an informative keynote on how recent college grads can successfully enter and effectively navigate what is considered one of the 鈥渉ottest鈥 areas in information technology. Following the keynote was a lively exchange in which the program panelists, whose careers are focused on some aspect of business intelligence and data analytics, offered valuable insights on how to transition from the classroom to the workplace and lay the groundwork for a profitable career. In addition to Zomick, panelists included Arieh Levi 鈥16SB (CB Insights), Elliot Fruchter 鈥04SB (Wolters Kluwer), Sarah Nagar 鈥16S (JP Morgan Chase), Evan Koller 鈥07YC (Group M) and Daniel Weiss 鈥17YC (Gain Theory). 鈥淐areers in Data Analytics鈥 was the brainchild of Yoni Schwartz 鈥19SB, who also moderated Wednesday evening鈥檚 panel discussion. A senior majoring in business intelligence and marketing analytics, Schwartz approached the Career Center with his programming idea and worked closely with Matthew Garcia, assistant director of career development, in creating a tightly focused event delivering real-world guidance for budding data analysts. 鈥淚鈥檓 very excited to have worked with the Career Center in crafting a program that supports the goals of my peers and which will help us form the kind of connections that could lead us to the right job after graduation.鈥
