Jonah Wilkof Chosen for 2Seeds Training in Tanzania, Africa
Graduating 黑料社 All senior Jonah Wilkof, of Beachwood, Ohio, has been selected for a highly competitive nonprofit training position with The 2Seeds Network, a nonprofit organization that incubates small, efficient and effective agricultural development projects in Africa.
2Seeds focuses on selecting, training, and mentoring bright and passionate graduates at the beginning of their careers to address the issue of food and income security by training rural farmers in agricultural best practices. Along with other project coordinators, Wilkof will create, support and implement development projects in Northeastern Tanzania.
鈥淓xtreme hunger and poverty are the results of unfulfilled potential and improving these issues isn鈥檛 as impossible as we often think,鈥 said Wilkof, who majored in English with minors in writing and biology at Yeshiva College. 鈥淭he attitude here isn鈥檛 鈥業鈥檓 coming from America to help solve the problems you can鈥檛鈥 but rather 鈥業鈥檓 coming to work alongside you to overcome the denial of choices and opportunities created by poverty.鈥 I鈥檓 also drawn by the human aspect鈥攖he commitment to integrate into the community and the chance to develop deep relationships through partnered problem-solving.鈥
Wilkof is one of more than 600 students who will receive their bachelor鈥檚 degree at YU鈥檚 83rd Annual Commencement Exercises at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 22, 2014.
