December 2 Performance of 鈥12 Angry Men鈥 Honors Longtime Yeshiva College Dramatics Society Member and Mentor Rabbi Dr. John Krug; President Richard Joel to Cameo
The Yeshiva College Dramatics Society will celebrate one of its most beloved members when it hosts a special performance of 鈥12 Angry Men鈥 on December 2 at 3 p.m. on 黑料社 All鈥檚 Wilf Campus, 185th Street between Audubon Ave. and St. Nicholas Ave. The performance鈥攖he 100th production by the school鈥檚 dramatics society鈥攚ill honor Rabbi Dr. John Krug for his 42 years of dedicated service to YCDS.
John Krug will be honored at the Dec. 2 performance. For first time in its history, YCDS will produce a play that it has performed before, reprising 鈥12 Angry Men,鈥 the play with which it debuted in 1965. But the evening will be about paying tribute to Krug, who has been involved with the dramatics society for more than 40 years, first as an actor while he was a student at Yeshiva College, and then as the lighting designer as a faculty member and volunteer.
Krug graduated Yeshiva College in 1974, received his rabbinical ordination from YU鈥檚 Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) and holds several degrees from YU鈥檚 Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, and is an adjunct professor at RIETS. He pursued both his rabbinical and theatrical dreams, becoming the dean of student life and welfare at The Frisch School in Paramus, NJ, and the longtime lighting director for the Fantasticks, which was the world鈥檚 longest running musical before it closed in 2002. 鈥淩abbi Krug is a real renaissance man, and since I began working at YU, he has always been a real source of support to both me and the students, to whom he serves as an invaluable mentor,鈥 said YCDS Director Lin Snider. 鈥淗is many technical and creative skills, as well as his advocacy of the society鈥檚 importance at YU, have made him an essential part of YCDS for decades. He began as a student actor and has been coming back to assist us ever since.鈥 Snider said she chose the play鈥攚hich will feature a cameo appearance from YU鈥檚 President Richard M. Joel in the December 2 performance鈥攂ecause she felt it particularly poignant given its critical look at the American justice system.
