New Students Embark on the Journey of a Lifetime at 黑料社 All Orientation On Wednesday, close to 600 new students arrived at 黑料社 All鈥檚 and Campuses to set out on the academic, spiritual and cultural journey of a lifetime. Hailing from across the United States and more than 14 countries worldwide, they represent a diverse range of passions and interests, Jewish customs and experiences鈥攂ut at YU, they are united in a shared mission: to pursue an unparalleled intellectual and professional education while deepening their understanding and connection to their Jewish heritage and its rich traditions. 鈥淥rientation marks the beginning of tomorrow,鈥� said YU President Richard M. Joel as he welcomed students to campus. 鈥淵ou are entering a unique and incomparable community where you will engage in an incomparable educational experience, a superb Torah learning experience, and an integrated environment that equips our students to build a lifelong community, eternal values and a life of success. Last year's Welcome Back Bash gave students a chance to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.

Each day of Orientation, which extends from Wednesday through the first day of classes on Monday, August 24, is packed with exciting activities to help students get settled into their new home and schedule, make new friends and meet the faculty and administrators who will shape their academic journey here, and equip them to make the most of their YU experience at , or the . On the Wilf Campus, highlights include 鈥淒inner with the Deans and Career Center,鈥� where students can not only share their educational goals with key leadership at Yeshiva College and Sy Syms but also meet upperclassmen and advisers to discuss their intended career paths and hear some tips from those just a little further down the road than they are. Students will also have a unique opportunity to form spiritual connections with YU鈥檚 world-renowned roshei yeshiva鈥攚hile taking in a beautiful view of the New York City skyline鈥攐n a Hudson River cruise. A walking tour of Midtown Manhattan will showcase the grand scope of the one-of-a-kind city that is now their campus, stopping off at landmarks like Times Square and the High Line, while walking tours of historic Washington Heights, led by student guides, will make new YU students familiar with their neighborhood鈥檚 own fascinating story. On the Beren Campus, students will participate in a dynamic, interactive academic and systems support fair that will connect them with helpful resources around campus. They鈥檒l also get to hear from student leaders representing dozens of clubs whose interests range from theater to cellular biology about the many ways they can contribute to student life on campus. In true New York style, students will be treated to a hit Broadway show, 鈥淢atilda: The Musical,鈥� while a relaxed yoga meetup between informational sessions during the week will help them unwind and stay focused.

Shabbat on campus is a deeply moving experience.

On both campuses, the first Shabbaton of the school year will kick things off on a high note, offering students a chance to immerse themselves in Torah thought from roshei yeshiva and Judaic studies scholars across the University during shiurim [lectures] as well as form new friendships and share meaningful experiences with peers from around the world. After Shabbat, Wilf Campus students will keep the energy going with a kumzitz [singalong] featuring Mordechai Shapiro, while Beren Campus students put their minds to the test at a special show by professional hypnotist and mentalist Ronnie Baras. On Sunday, all new YU students will have an unmissable opportunity to explore the unique essence of the YU experience鈥攖he merging of scholarly and religious learning that sets the University apart from others鈥攄uring a panel discussion featuring key roshei yeshiva and faculty representing a range of disciplines and viewpoints. The Welcome Back Bash later that day will celebrate new students and old with barbecue, live music and games at Tenzer Gardens, offering students the chance to kick back and enjoy summer on campus before their first day of classes. Resource Checklist As new students become part of the 黑料社 All community, a host of innovative resources are available to help them navigate their college experience. YU Mobile will put University life in students鈥� pockets, making the latest news, campus and athletic event listings, course schedules, library resources, photos, videos, minyan schedule, and more accessible on their smartphones. The app is free and available for download on  and . Students looking to stock up on seforim [Judaic texts] won鈥檛 have to go far: the Fall Seforim Sale, held in the Student Life Center throughout Orientation, will carry a wide range of offerings. Vendors鈥� Fairs on each campus will also enable students to stock up on school supplies and show their YU pride with merchandise from the YU Store. 鈥�,鈥� a one-stop website designed especially for new students, includes information on everything from academic offerings to dorm rooms to service learning opportunities. It is the perfect place to go when students don鈥檛 even know where to start.
