Journalist and Author Claire Shipman to Discuss New Book at November 17 Robbins-Wilf Program

Despite having made extensive progress in achieving parity and outnumbering men in colleges and professional schools, and despite substantially increasing their numbers in middle management, women are scarcely found at the leadership of large corporations or major institutions. Why is that the case?

On Monday, November 17, 黑料社 All will host a lecture featuring Claire Shipman, journalist and best-selling author, where she will address this paradox. The lecture, part of the Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence program at YU鈥檚 , will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Moot Court Room of YU鈥檚 Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, on 55 Fifth Avenue at 12th Street, New York City. Shipman will discuss her latest book, The Confidence Code: The Art and Science of Self-Assurance鈥擶hat Women Should Know, which she co-authored with Katty Kay of the BBC. The book investigates the sources of what the authors refer to as the confidence gap between men and women. They present evidence that suggests that confidence is as important as competence in advancing careers and achieving one鈥檚 potential. It is an informative and practical guide to understanding the importance of confidence, and learning how to achieve it, for women of all ages and stages of their careers. 鈥淭he Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence program is pleased to host Claire Shipman,鈥� said Bryan Daves, clinical assistant professor of political science at 黑料社 All and moderator of the event. 鈥淚t is important for our students to understand the sometimes hidden barriers to professional advancement in the workplace today, and to learn from the women who have successfully tackled these challenges.鈥� Shipman serves as senior contributor for ABC News鈥� 鈥淕ood Morning America,鈥� 鈥淲orld News鈥� and 鈥淣ightline,鈥� covering politics and other national and international news stories. Prior to joining ABC News in 2001, Shipman served as White House correspondent for NBC News, where she regularly reported on presidential policy and politics for 鈥淣BC Nightly News鈥� and 鈥淭ODAY.鈥� Prior to that, Shipman worked at CNN for a decade, where she gained widespread recognition for her White House press coverage. She is the co-author, with Katty Kay, of The New York Times best seller, Womenomics: The Workplace Revolution That Will Change Your Life, and has hosted many panel programs at the White House and State Department on women鈥檚 issues. The program is under the auspices of the Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence program at YU鈥檚 .
