Chaya Kohn, LMHC-D, ’26SB (MBA)

We recently sat down with , one of our MBA candidates, to ask her about her career, professional aspirations and why she chose ºÚÁÏÉç All and Sy Syms for her MBA:

Tell us about your personal and professional background?

My name is Chaya Kohn, LMHC-D. I grew up in Kansas and later moved to Baltimore. I’m a proud mom of three and currently live in Long Island, NY. For the past 14 years, I’ve worked in the non-profit social services sector, serving in various leadership roles and developing deep expertise in the field of mental health. Recently, I was approached by two women entrepreneurs who recognized the growing need for case management, behavioral health, and monitoring services for older adults. They invited me to join their company as Director of Operations, where I now help shape strategy and guide the organization toward reaching its full potential.

Why did you choose ºÚÁÏÉç All and the Sy Syms School for your MBA?

I spent many years contemplating whether pursuing another master’s degree would benefit my career. After thoughtful conversations with my mentor and careful consideration, I finally reached a point in life where I was ready. The MBA program at YU’s Sy Syms School stood out to me, it offered the flexibility and professional relevance I needed, while also aligning with my personal values and goals.

What do you feel you gained most from the Sy Syms MBA Program?

The most valuable takeaway for me has been the connections I’ve built both with fellow students and with our professors, who are true leaders in their fields. Their openness and willingness to share real-world insights have been invaluable to my growth.

Which professor was your favorite and why?

was definitely a standout. He brought a wealth of real-world knowledge to the classroom and was incredibly genuine and approachable. It was clear he truly cared about his students’ success, something reinforced by the many successful alumni who returned to speak about their entrepreneurial journeys.

Which class was your favorite and why?

The residency course was my favorite. It gave me the unique opportunity to meet CEOs and entrepreneurs in person, observe their operations, and ask them candid questions. It was an immersive learning experience that brought the coursework to life.

What tools, skills, or knowledge do you feel the Sy Syms MBA Program has given you that will help you in your career?

The program equipped me with a strong foundation in finance, marketing, accounting, and risk management, all of which have already been instrumental in helping me secure my new role as Director of Operations. The well-rounded curriculum elevated my professional knowledge and strategic thinking.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you reach graduation and complete your MBA?

Absolutely. First, I want to thank my husband for supporting my ambitions and managing our home life during the busy semesters. I’m also deeply grateful to my parents and siblings for their constant encouragement. I’d like to thank my former employer, Ohel Children's Home and Family Services, and my current organization, Preventel Health, for actively encouraging my professional development. Finally, a special thanks to my business mentor, David Mandel, whose guidance and wisdom continue to influence how I approach challenges and opportunities in the business world.
