YU Delegation Participates in Emergency Rabbinic Mission to Washington, D.C. On September 9, a delegation of rabbinical students and faculty from 黑料社 All joined an emergency rabbinic mission to Washington, D.C., organized by the Orthodox Union, Rabbinical Council of America and American Israel Public Affairs Committee, to urge Congress to reject the Iran Deal. Highlights of the day included an opening session at the Marriot Marquis Hotel, where Rabbi Menachem Penner, Max and Marion Grill Dean of YU-affiliated , addressed the group; a rally and vigil for rabbis and shul leaders on Capitol Hill; a recitation of psalms led by Rabbi Herschel Schachter, Nathan and Vivian Fink Distinguished Professorial Chair in Talmud; and lobbying meetings, also on Capitol Hill, that took place throughout the day.

Other YU Torah personalities who accompanied students on the trip were Rabbi Zvi Sobolofsky, rosh yeshiva at RIETS; Rabbi Mayer Twersky, Leib Merkin Distinguished Professorial Chair in Talmud and Jewish Philosophy; Rabbi Daniel Feldman, rosh yeshiva at RIETS; Rabbi Kenneth Brander, vice president of university and community life at YU; and Rabbi Ezra Schwartz, bochein and leader of Congregation Mount Sinai in Washington Heights, New York, among other participants. 鈥淚t was an unbelievable sight to see hundreds of rabbinical personalities from across the country come together and unite in opposition to the deal,鈥� said Jacob Herenstein, 鈥�17SB, who had the opportunity to thank Representative Scott Garrett for his support of Israel. 鈥淎s a student leader myself, it was amazing seeing many leaders of the Jewish world coming together for something so crucial to our security. I believe that this issue is an incredibly important one, both for the United States and for Israel.鈥� He added, 鈥淚 would like to thank Rabbi Penner and the entire RIETS administration for realizing how crucial it was for the largest rabbinic seminary in America to be represented at this rally.鈥� 鈥淎ttending the rabbinic lobby effort and rally on behalf of Israel with YU rabbeim, semicha students and college students wasn鈥檛 only about supporting Israel, it was about modeling for students, our future leaders, the responsibility to get involved and speak truth to power,鈥� said Rabbi Brander.
