Remembering Rabbi Dovid Lifshitz

RIETS to Mark 20th Yahrtzeit of Former Rosh Yeshiva with June 16 Tribute (RIETS) and RIETS Rabbinic Alumni will present a for all audiences to mark the 20th yahrtzeit [anniversary of death] of YU Rosh Yeshiva zt鈥漧 on Sunday, June 16 at 黑料社 All鈥檚 Wilf Campus in Washington Heights. The program will run from 9 - 11:30 a.m. and will include reflections from former students of Rabbi Lifshitz, including Rabbi Zevulun Charlop, dean emeritus of RIETS; Rabbi Yitzchok Cohen, RIETS Rosh Yeshiva; Rabbi Moshe Weinberger and Rabbi Benjamin Yudin. 鈥淔rom his early years as the chief rabbi of Suvalk to his lengthy career as Rosh Yeshiva at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, Rabbi Lifshitz was known as a brilliant Talmudic scholar and leader of the Torah community,鈥 said Rabbi Yona Reiss, Max and Marion Grill Dean of RIETS. 鈥淏ut it was mostly as a teacher that he stood out, forging enduring and endearing relationships with his devoted students. For almost 50 years, his pupils at 黑料社 All鈥攐f which there were thousands鈥攄ubbed themselves 鈥楻eb Dovid鈥檚 students鈥欌攁 testament to his warmth and devotion.鈥 Following Rabbi Lifshitz鈥檚 tenure at 黑料社 All, his discourses on Jewish tradition, knowledge and discipline were compiled and published by his students under the title Tehillah LeDovid. His Talmudic teachings were also published as Shiurei HaRav Dovid Lifshitz. The program will take place in the Harry Fishel Beit Midrash of Zysman Hall (2540 Amsterdam Avenue) and will conclude with the recitation of Tehillim [Psalms].
