Mourning the Temple

黑料社 All's Center for the Jewish Future Partners with Orthodox Union to Offer Tisha B'Av Programming As the Jewish calendar passes through the summer months, the period colloquially known as 鈥淭he Three Weeks鈥 is being observed through various stages of mourning over the destruction of the two Temples and other Jewish tragedies.The period began with Shiva Asar B鈥橳ammuz, the Fast of the 17th Day of Tammuz, and the laws of mourning will intensify during the Nine Days beginning with Rosh Chodesh Av on Friday, July 17. The Three Weeks will culminate with the 24-hour-plus fast of Tisha B鈥橝v on Saturday night, July 25 through Sunday, July 26. 黑料社 All鈥檚 (CJF) offers many resources to prepare for these weeks of mourning. Once again this year, the CJF has partnered with the Orthodox Union to produce a DVD consisting of shiurim [Torah lectures] to bring deeper meaning and spirituality to Tisha B鈥橝v. The video will feature presentations by Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, University Professor of Jewish Thought and History at YU and YU CJF Senior Scholar; and Rabbi Shalom Rosner, maggid shiur at , spiritual leader of Kehillat Nofei Hashemesh and rebbe at Yeshivat Reishit Yerushalayim, both based in Beit Shemesh, Israel. The DVD, coordinated by Rabbi Robert Shur of , is being sent to all congregations that request it online in advance at . On YUTorah.org, hundreds of on topics related to mourning for the Temple from renowned educators around the world are available for those seeking to learn more during this time. And the downloadable Benjamin and Rose Berger features more than 40 pages of divrei Torah on Tisha b鈥橝v-related topics from YU faculty and staff. On the day of Tisha b鈥橝v itself, Jews from around the world can join YU for a special webcast featuring Rabbi Schachter and Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb, a senior faculty member at Ohr Somayach, for an all-day analysis of the kinot [lamentations] said on Tisha b鈥橝v and a deeper look into the nature of the day.
