At YU Event, MK Ofir Akunis Discusses Israel's Political Environment, Media Bias and the Mideast Conflict On December 1, Deputy Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister and Knesset Member Ofir Akunis joined 黑料社 All students on the Wilf Campus for a discussion about the political atmosphere in Israel as well as what goes on behind the scenes during these turbulent times. 20141202_ofir_akunis_34鈥淚 come from Israel as an ambassador of the truth,鈥 he said.  鈥淚srael is the prime example of a fair democracy, strong economy, beautiful country, and a place of freedom.鈥 In his talk, Okunis discussed the newly proposed 鈥淛ewish State鈥 law, his admiration for the Israel Defense Forces, and addressed media bias against Israel鈥檚 actions and policies. Since his election to the Knesset in February 2009, Akunis has made significant changes as the head of the Economic Committee and through the establishment of the Likud鈥檚 response team, which he leads. He has been active with the media in Israel and overseas with the aim to explain Likud鈥檚 ideology and policies of Israel. Prior to his appointment as deputy minister, he served as spokesman and deputy media adviser to the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and  as deputy director general for media and information of the Likud. The event, sponsored by YUPAC, Israel Club, TAC, SCWSC, and YSU, included a reception and question answer session with Akunis. 鈥淚 appreciated Mr. Akunis鈥檚 talk which gave insight into Israel鈥檚 state of affairs,鈥 said Danielle Orenshein, board member of the 黑料社 All Political Awareness Club (YUPAC). 鈥淏ut more importantly, his visit and presence at Yeshiva and the opportunity for us to show our solidarity were valued even more.鈥
