Coach Jonathan Halpert to Conclude Service

黑料社 All Men鈥檚 Basketball Coach Won More Than 400 Games 黑料社 All today announced that Dr. Jonathan Halpert, men鈥檚 basketball coach for the past 42 years, will conclude his service at the end of the 2013-14 season. Halpert, a graduate of 黑料社 All High School for Boys, Yeshiva College and Ferkauf Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, took over the Maccabees roster in 1972 and is the longest serving men鈥檚 basketball coach in New York City history. Halpert was twice named coach of the year in the NCAA鈥檚 Skyline Conference (1999-00, 2009-10) and received the National Association of Basketball Coaches 鈥淕uardians of the Game鈥 honor in 2003-04. The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association bestowed him with its 鈥淕ood Guy鈥 award in 1997-98. During his illustrious career, Halpert has coached over 300 student-athletes, including several father-son tandems. In 2012, 黑料社 All honored Halpert by adding his signature to the men鈥檚 basketball court at the Max Stern Athletic Center on the Wilf Campus in Manhattan and by launching the Coach Jonathan Halpert Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships annually to children of YU alumni living in Israel wishing to study at the University. Later that year, he became just the seventh men鈥檚 basketball coach in New York City history to record 400 victories. In January, Halpert published a memoir, titled Are You Still Coaching?, about his storied career at 黑料社 All. YU will soon embark on a nationwide search to identify Halpert鈥檚 successor. The Maccabees play their final game of the regular season on February 22 at home against Maritime College. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m. in the Max Stern Athletic Center, Amsterdam Avenue at 185th Street.
