Levine Delivers Lectures in Queens and Israel

michelle levineDr. Michelle Levine, associate professor of bible at YU鈥檚 , delivered several lectures this summer. At the Sixteenth World Congress of Jewish Studies, held in Jerusalem from July 28-August 1, she presented a paper in Hebrew titled, 鈥淭he Art and Meaning of Biblical Poetry in Nahmanides鈥 Biblical Commentary.鈥 Levine was also scholar-in-residence at the Young Israel of Oceanside in July, where she presented a lecture titled, 鈥淭he Women of the Book of Judges: Reflections of Their Times,鈥 and participated in a panel discussion on issues and themes in the Former Prophets. In August, Levine presented a lecture in Hebrew in a synagogue in Efrat, titled, 鈥淭estimony for the Generations: Nahmanides鈥 Analysis of the Song of Ha鈥檃zinu (Deuteronomy 32).鈥 She also continued her women鈥檚 group on the Bible in Holliswood, NY this summer, presenting classes on the topics of 鈥淩edemption, Restoration and Remembrance in the Book of Ruth鈥 and 鈥淭zipporah and Her Daring Act of Circumcision in Exodus 4.鈥 In addition, Levine published two academic articles. "Character, Characterization and Intertextuality in Nahmanides' Commentary on Biblical Narrative" was published in  volume 53.  Another article, "Rambam's Integrative Reading of Biblical Narrative," was published in Conversations: Where the Yeshiva Meets the University: Traditional and Academic Approaches to Tanakh Study, edited by Rabbi Hayyim J. Angel.
